The perfect itinerary to travel around Indonesia

I have been receiving lots of emails and Facebook messages for the past months. Some were from friends, friends of my friends or even unknown people that needed help to arrange their itinerary to travel around Indonesia. Everyone wants to plan their very own adventure and everyone has different interests but more or less these were the 2 types of messages I have been reading more.

Prambudur temples and the management of tourism in Central Java

Prambanan and Borobudur temples are always a must in a trip to Jogjakarta. Two different architectural wonders yet inseparable, that’s why we call them the “Prambudur” combination. Furthermore, the price of the tickets if you buy the pass for both Prambanan and Borobudur in the same day will be cheaper than just one of them.

Borobudur in early morning is so mystical. From the top of the 3 levels and sorrounded by stupas the views of the vegetation mixed with the mist makes it so unique. Continue reading

Bali itineraries

There are certain common routes that people follow when they travel to Indonesia, in that case to Bali. The routes vary when the purpose of the trip is specific like when it’s only a surfing trip or a yoga retreat experience. However, the vast majority travels with the same intentions: having fun, getting to know the culture, trying the local food, learning about the traditions and reaching as much as “must see spots” as possible.

Bandung: street work out for free

Sport is not only for athlets and should be not only for those who want to have the perfect body. Practicing sport is a must for all of us to be healthy and active.

Until now many cities in Indonesia had no parks or public spaces to work out, furthermore the streets are full of cars, motorbikes and it’s hard to find sidewalks to exercise. The food is also not helping at all because everything cheap contains too much sugar or it’s fried. These reasons had encourage some “teams” to act.

Out of the touristic routes: Cimahi

Cimahi is a small city that became independent from Bandung not long ago. It’s a residential area located west of Bandung and is host to military education facilities.

Cimahi together with Bandung are green and hilly and the weather is always chilly and very different from cities such as the hot and polluted Jakarta. Indonesian people are not used to cold temperatures, but they really enjoy that kind of adem places, wich means fresh in bahasa indonesia.

A traditional barber salon in Jakarta

There are so many shopping malls in Jakarta where you can find modern barber shops and well equipped hairdressers. However, the prices there are very high and I wanted to discover the traditional barber shops from the small neighbourhoods. Those places in which an old man has accommodated his hand to the scissors forever and he knows all his customer’s life and favorite hair cuts.

Nusa Ceningan: the Atlantic coast in Asia

Nusa Ceningan, neighbour of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida is a tiny island off the East coast of southern Bali. The wild sea at Blue Lagoon, the sharp rocks, the high cliffs and the bushes and pins make me think of the Atlantic coast in Europe.

Internships in Indonesia

Honestly… the best way to explore a foreign country is moving there. After one month in a new territory is when you will stop being shy and you will start to look at the small details that surround you. You will begin to interact with the environment then.

Besides traveling for holidays as most people do, there are other ways to explore the world as joining an internship program in a new culture. You just need to choose the destination and the internship options. In Indonesia there are several companies that give support during the preparation stage and throughout the time of the internship. I can recommend the ones that are familiar to me: one prepares internships in Bali, while the other one in many more places in Indonesia.

In 2013 I wrote articles for Wellness Way magazine, which is an online magazine based in Ubud, Bali. The content included writings about wellness, fashion, beauty, travel, inspiration and lifestyle. Wellnessway magazine was the company that sponsored me during my 4 months internship. Other than writing articles my tasks were mailing the brands, in order to ask information about products and press releases; attending to events, workshops and cultural festivals in Ubud, as well as assisting the photographer.
